Location:
Al-Zarqawi's last moments are spent in Hibhib, Iraq, 40 miles north of Baghdad in Diyala Province.
The target area is bordered by a long waterway, a canal that must be crossed via a footbridge to get to the location of the safe house. This is an isolated and lush region, host to a sparse population of houses surrounded by a mature forest of date and palm trees.
The safe house is a two-story, fortified structure. The home stands alone, lending the occupants a 360-degree escape route once outside the building and optimum visibility of incoming and outgoing vehicles.
